Orange County On Track
Kids On Track...Through Mentoring
2004-2005 Program Year Evaluation Highlights

The On Track programs in Santa Ana and throughout Orange County have a long-standing record of success.
Over the past 10 years, the majority of On Track mentees (more than 80%) have demonstrated success in three or more of the following categories: 1) higher self-esteem, 2) less anti-social behavior, 3) more respect and tolerance
for others, 4) better listening skills, 5) higher awareness of choices and consequences, 6) an understanding of the dangers of drugs, plus 7) a higher level of success in academics.

Highlights from the 2004-2005 year include:

  • 100% of the teachers reported seeing academic improvements in the students they referred;
  • Over 90% of the teachers reported greater homework completion rates at the end of the year;
  • Over 95% of the students reported awareness of the harmful consequences of drugs by the end of the year;
  • Over 90% of the students reported awareness of the negative effects of gang involvement; and
  • Over 80% of students either maintained and/or developed positive connections and attitudes towards school
These results have been measured using a pre- and post- survey design each year of the program with instruments that have demonstrated reliability and validity.  Each year surveys are administered to the mentees, their teachers, and the mentors.  Additionally, school grades and homework completion rates are collected for the mentees.
